Trade Talk: Tollywood Chants Direct-to-Digital Mantra!

It has been more than a hundred days since the movie theaters are shut down. Situation looks to remain the same even after another hundred days.

Hence, the producers of low budget films and a few medium budget films are now in talks with OTT platforms for ‘direct-to-digital’ release.

Krishna And His Leela backed by Suresh Productions dropped on Netflix without any pre-release Hungama.

A couple of Tamil and Hindi movies are already streaming on various OTT platforms. Kannada and Malayalam movies are also scheduled for release in July.

Tamil actor Vishal is planning to release his Chakra on an OTT platform.

Buzz has it that more than half a dozen Telugu movies would drop on OTT in the months of July and August.

We may see many other films go this way if the theaters don’t open by September.
