Karimnagar (PTI): The body of post-graduate medicine student, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Pennsylvania, US, was cremated in his native district of Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Akkaldevi Srinivas (29), who was persuing MD in internal medicine, was found dead in a pool of blood with stab wounds on his neck in Pennsylvania last Saturday.

The body of Srinivas was brought on Saturday to his native place Kotula, where thousands of villagers paid tributes to him.

Anjiah, the father of the deceased who accompanied the body from US, lit the funeral pyre.

An MBBS student of the 1995 batch of Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, Srinivas had joined Scranton State University for an MD programme in 2005 after completing his MS. He went to the US in 2002.

“It was not a suicide as claimed by the US police. My son was a brave intellectural and not a timid fellow to commit suicide,” an unconsolable Anjiah said. He appealed to the US Government to thoroughly probe his son’s mysterious death.

Srinivas was the fourth Indian student found dead in US in the last few months.

In December, two PhD students from Andhra Pradesh — Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma of Kurnool District and Allam Kiran Kumar of Karimnagar district–were shot dead at Louisiana State University. Srinivas was the third victim hailing from Andhra Pradesh.

The fourth student hailed from Jharkhand. Abhijit Mahato, a research student, was shot dead in his apartment in North Carolinia last month.
