Tirupati (PTI): The Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam (TTD) has collected more than Rs 2.40 crore on the first day of the Srivari Bramhotsav this year, temple authorities said.
The collections from the ‘Hundi’, sale of laddus and other activities on October 1, the first day of the Srivari Brahmotsavam-2008, were more than Rs 2.40 crore, temple authorities said.
Around 53,623 persons sought ‘darshan’ of the presiding deity till midnight on October 1 despite six hours of blockage due to the arrival of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Karnataka CM B S Yeddyurappa, temple authorities said.
Nearly 45,530 person were tonsured at the Srivari Kalyanakatta, 59,025 persons had free meals at the Srivari Annadanam complex and 38,025 cups of free milk were distributed, they said.
Besides two thousand security personnel, 1700 volunteers of Srivari Seva and scout guides worked on the inaugural day of the Brahmotsavam, authorities said.
