Hyderabad: Instead of receiving honour from the students on Teachers day, the professors of Osmania University on Tuesday faced wrath of the students.

The sting operation carried out by a private Telugu news channel has exposed O.U. professor’s sexual proposal to a lady student.

According to the story aired in the news channel, Prof. Suryanarayana of Business Management Department of O.U. Commerce College  asked a lady student, who  approached him for admission into P.hD. Course, to satiate his sexual desire. The Television crew has recorded the incident and aired.

The students of the University got angry with this and took to streets. The ABVP and SFT members ransacked the office of  the Vice Chancellor of the University.

The students belonging to TRSV, DSF and NSUI took out a protest rally in the campus  and staged rastha roko on the main road. The traffic came to a standstill for some time due to the students’ action. They raised slogans against the Professor and demanded his suspension.

Speaking at the programme, Mr. Manavatha Rai, State General Secretary of NSUI stated that the admission system to P.hD. Course was full of lapses.

Money, favourtism and caste partiality were ruling the roost in the admissions process. He alleged that professors were trying to lure the lady students into unethical relations promising to give fellowship. He urged the University authority to introduce entrance test system and allot P.hD seats on the basis of merit.

Mr. P. Ravi of Bahujana Students’ Front (BSF) regretted  and termed it as unfortunate that management professors’ misbehaviour with a lady student  came to light on Teachers’ day. It is not only shame to Osmania University, but also to the entire education system in the state. The guilty professor should be arrested immediately. He wanted the OU authority to take stern action against him.
