Hyderabad: In the last fortnight, two IT companies in Madhapur area shut shop. The managements allegedly cheated techies and collected crores of rupees from them. The youths who hoped for a good career overseas are now in a fix. Employees of Heavrich Technologies, Kondapur, lodged a complaint at Madhapur police station earlier this week claiming that the company management collected Rs 1.5 lakh from each employee and the office was locked from June 6. Earlier on May 30, employees of Global Software Solutions, Nandagiri Hills, lodged a similar complaint at Jubilee Hills police station and police arrested the company managing director, Vinay Naidu. Nearly 600 employees were allegedly cheated of Rs 8 crore in these two cases.

According to Madhapur inspector of police, N Bhujanga Rao, unemployed rural graduates are the main victims in such cases. “Those who were cheated paid the money thinking that they would get real-time job experience and using that they can join the MNCs or go abroad for a better opportunity,” N BhujangaRao said. But, most of the techies do not see the fake experience certificate as a crime. They think in the present job market, the unemployed can get a job only by claiming fake experience. “Thousands of MCA, M.Sc and B.Tech graduates are coming out with degrees every year. Campus recruitments are available only for a few lucky ones. Others have to find their own way to establish themselves,” L Vamsi Krishna, who is one of the victims of the Heavrich solutions said.

Vamsi graduated in engineering from a college in Khammam in 2007 and came to Hyderabad in search of a job. But he was turned down by small firms for lack of experience and bigger firms did not even bother to call him for an interview. “Then I came to know about Heavrich solutions through one of my seniors and I convinced my father to pay the money, so that I can use the experience and join in a better firm after one year. But I never expected that the company will be shut,” he said.

Talking about the fictitious software companies, both police and industry experts say that the responsibility lies with an employee to a major extent.

“Most of the people who join such companies are those who come from rural parts of the state and getting a break is proving to be a difficult task for them as they lack experience. So, before joining a company, check its credentials by talking to the employees,” DCP (DD), Praveen Kumar said.

L Suresh, secretary, Hyderabad Software Exporters Association (HYSEA), said that one cannot expect to begin one’s career by joining a company which collects money from the employees and one should immediately start suspecting such company. “No genuine software firm will ask for money to give you a job. In fact, bigger companies are now going for third party background checks before recruiting an employee. So, even if one gets an experience certificate from a fictitious company, it will not get you a job in a good software company,” Suresh said. “If any software company is asking you for money to give a job, immediately inform the police,” he advised.
