The Singapore Telugu Samajam has organized “Kaartheeka Maasa Vanabhojanaalu” event in Singapore’s East Coast Park Castle Beach area on Sunday 23rd November.
The event was attended by over 700 people, making it one of the largest gatherings ever for this type of event in Singapore. Amidst a beautiful beach backdrop and lush greenery, Telugu people from all walks of life took a welcome breather from the hectic and grueling daily grind that so often characterizes life in a big Metropolis like Singapore.
The event started at 10:30 am and went on till about 5pm when heavy rain forced people to break up the party which was otherwise going strong with lively Telugu music and entertaining programs. Sporting events were conducted for people of all ages and Kabaddi, Volley Ball, Running races and spoon lemon race for women turned out to be the biggest crowd pullers.
In addition to these programs, drawing competitions for kids, Anthyakshari for women and Thambola for families were organized to provide wholesome entertainment. All the guests were served a sumptuous meal with many traditional Andhra delicacies like Gaarelu, Boorelu, Bobbatlu, Bajjilu, Thokkudu pacchadi etc. Drinks and snacks were provided in the evening.
As it also happened to be Grand Parents day, the President of the Singapore Telugu Samajam Mr.Arimilli Radhakrishna, invited the elders in the gathering to officially launch the hard copy of Singapore’s first Telugu Magazine “Sumanjali”. The electronic edition of this magazine was launched on A.P. Formation Day. With the launch of the hard copy of “Sumanjali”, STS became one of the first Telugu NRI Associations in the world to launch a hard copy of a local magazine.
The Telugu NRI’s who come so far away from home and from loved ones in search of educational and employment prospects were delighted to spend some quality time amongst fellow Telugu People in a traditional environment and the efforts of the people who were behind this event were lauded by one and all.
The members also pledged to join hands to achieve the longstanding goal of Telugu Channels broadcast in Singapore.
After a day of fun and enjoyment all the guests who visited were given ‘goodie bags’ from Sing Health as well as free copies of the Sumanjali magazine. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the various sports events.
