An average Greater Hyderabad voter feels that the current politics and politicians are corrupt and they don’t do any good to people except to fill their own pockets with public money. It is no secret that politicians spend huge amounts of money in elections only to earn much more once they come into power. Also average voter knows that in the existing political parties, Lok Satta is better in terms of honesty or in terms of feasibility of the promises that they made. Even then, the results are as expected: Lok Satta could not win single counsiler seat. What could be the reasons?
1. People’s status quo thinking made them think that these politics cannot be changed, the so called ideas of Lok Satta though they are good are not practical.
2. People’s insecurity feeling makes them think that they need the support of a local leader in resolving their day to day issues. The local leader should be strong and if required he should use muscle power to support them. The one who goes straight forward and seeks support of law cannot help them.
3. People in general inherantly have caste and religious feelings within. They want leader from their community should win, no matter if he is good or bad. They think it will make their community stronger. The ideas of Lok Satta that preach in support of elimination of caste and religion in politics does not suite them.
4. A small allegation against a person whom people think as honest gets bigger attention and impacts much higher than bigger allegations on those who usually are corrupt. It is okay for them if they hear about thousand crore scam by either Congress or TDP but if someone says Lok Satta has misutilized some 3 crores of party funds, even if it is not true people take it negatively.
5. The elite urban educated voters who are generally supporters of Lok Satta kept themselves sitting at home or going to offices as they thought greater elections are not for them.
Change comes only in small steps, but unless people make themselves as part of change, change cannot be possible.
