The first question to ask ourselves is what makes our country so mystical. It is beyond comprehension to answer questions such as why Hinduism flourishes after thousands of years of brutal invasions centered on religious intolerance, a country so diverse flows with abundant patriotism and in spite of not having an aggressive religious dictum Hinduism still survives. The answer is because Hinduism has evolved more as a culture and a way of life rather than as a religion and the underlying strength of the Hindu way of life is belief. Remember belief is such a strong word that nothing can destroy it whether it is the cannons of the mighty British or the ruthlessness of the Arabs.
I remember watching a movie Miracle on the 34th street. The film is about a court case whether Santa Claus exists or not. In the climax of the film the movie’s heroine presents to the judge a Christmas card containing a one dollar bill with the words “In God We Trust” circled. The judge declares if the United States Government can issue its currency bearing a declaration of trust in God on belief alone, then he can rule that Santa Claus exists. This movie really touched my heart. Here is my point to make if the country that is the foremost harbinger of democracy and secular principles can print on its currency “In God We Trust” why can’t a country like India fear to take the word of God in fear of getting labeled itself as a Theocratic state. Nobody can prove that God exists it is the belief that God exists brings order in our lives.
Belief is centric to everybody and a billion Hindus have grown up hearing the stories of Ramayana and how the Vanara Sena has built a bridge to help lord Rama reach Lanka. The belief of a billion Hindus put together is so strong that it can over take anything. Why is the Government playing with this belief? Why in the world do they need somebody to prove that Rama exists or the Rama Sethu exists?
A belief is not a theory to prove ⦠it is the inertia with which the mankind moves forward. I sincerely request the powers that are to not kindle with this fire.
