The festival of lights Deepavali is happening today and unlike any other year where the Indian population is known to wait for, this festival seems to have lost the sheen. Reports have been arriving that the effect of recession seems to have taken a heavy toll on this one. 


It is heard that about 50% of the stock had to be sent back to the manufacturers since there is no sale happening. Crowds say that the prices are quite high and at the same time, the mood for Diwali is lost due to the recession and the market conditions. 


Also, the floods that lashed parts of the state and many have to divert their funds to the flood relief. On top of this, the awareness of environment protection and saving atmosphere from pollution has contributed in a good way. All in all, a grim season for the cracker sellers.
