The first information report (FIR) in the Ketan Agarwal murder case contains several critical details, including allegations that his fiancee, Siya Goyal, had shown “erratic behaviour” before the couple went to Lohagad Fort near Pune.
According to the FIR, Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, allegedly pushed Ketan Agarwal off a cliff, leading to his death.
The FIR was filed by Ketan’s father, Vishal Devichand Agarwal, on June 23.
It stated that Ketan had recently told his family that Siya was behaving strangely, throwing tantrums and arguing with him over small issues.
One major point of dispute was a cancelled trip to Lohagad Fort on June 4.
According to the FIR, Siya became highly upset after the trip did not happen and repeatedly demanded that Ketan take her there.
On the night of June 17, Siya allegedly called Ketan on WhatsApp and used her upcoming birthday, which was two days later, as a reason to convince his reluctant family to allow them to visit the fort the next day.
Ketan’s mother, Rakhi Agarwal, initially refused permission for the trip. However, according to the FIR, Siya directly spoke to her and persuaded her to change her mind.
Ketan left home on the morning of June 18 and picked up Siya from Kiwale bridge on the Pune-Mumbai highway before heading to Lohagad Fort.
At around 10.45 am, Siya called Ketan’s mother and claimed that he had accidentally fallen into a gorge at the fort.
Locals and police later found him in the gorge and rushed him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
On June 21, Ketan’s father and relatives visited the exact spot from where he had fallen.
According to the FIR, they concluded that an accidental slip from that location was highly unlikely. Ketan’s friends, Navdeep Jindal and Tarun Mittal, also accompanied the family to inspect the cliff.
The family further alleged that Siya’s phone was constantly busy and that she frequently mentioned her “friend” Chetan Chaudhary. This led them to suspect that Siya and Chetan were in a romantic relationship.
The FIR, which names both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, alleges that the two decided to kill Ketan because he had become an obstacle to their relationship.
The case has been registered at the Lonavala Rural police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Ketan’s father said Ketan and Siya had got engaged in February. The couple had planned to visit Bali on June 6 for a pre-wedding shoot, but the trip was cancelled as Ketan could not get his passport in time.
Police said Siya’s parents have been called for questioning in connection with the alleged murder. This comes after police questioned her younger brother, Sahil Goyal, for nearly 10 hours on Wednesday.
“Our investigation is currently at a preliminary stage. We have recorded some statements so far. Under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police, we have formed multiple teams. The investigation is proceeding accordingly,” police officer Gajanan Tompe told IANS.
“So far, we have recorded statements of those people who were essential for the case and will continue to do so,” he added.
