A video from the US has gone viral on social media, showing an Indian couple being racially abused by a stranger, who allegedly asked them to “go back to India.”
The date and location of the video have not been confirmed. However, several Indian-origin users and NRI social media channels have shared the clip, saying it reflects the kind of hostility Indians sometimes face in the US.
In the video, the stranger, apparently sitting in a car, asks the Indian couple whether India is better than the US. The couple responds calmly and continues the conversation. When the husband says their family is in India, the stranger asks why they are in the US if India is so good.
“To explore the world,” the Indian man replies.
The stranger then says, “No, we don’t want you here. You gotta go home,” before abusing him and asking him to leave the country. The Indian man, however, does not react aggressively.
Sharing the video, an NRI channel described the incident as “heartbreaking and disturbing.”
Many users praised the couple for staying calm and not engaging in the hateful exchange. However, some argued that such silence only makes Indians more vulnerable to racist attacks.
“Why stay so silent? This taking-it-easy attitude makes us even more vulnerable. Start being more firm and aggressive towards racism,” one user wrote.
Another user said such incidents were increasing in North Texas and urged people to report them to authorities.
“If it happens to you or anyone you know, report it to the police. Record the hate incident and give it to the authorities. Inaction emboldens bullies,” the user wrote.
Another social media user questioned the logic behind abusing random strangers.
“Your government issued visas to these people. If you have a problem with them visiting or staying there, take it up with the people who allowed them in,” the user commented.
Many X users also tagged US Secretary of State Marco Rubio while sharing the video. During his India trip, Rubio had earlier said that every country has “stupid people” who make racist comments, but insisted that the United States remains a welcoming country.
The video has also brought attention to a new wave of anti-Indian content online. Several so-called influencers have started targeting Indians in public places and recording such encounters for social media traction.
This particular video was reportedly posted by a verified social media handle, @AyTone4th, who describes himself as a music producer. The same person had earlier posted another video in which he allegedly entered an Indian restaurant and made an offensive remark asking for “cow poo.”
