Indian-Origin Man Arrested for Reckless Driving in Florida

A 22-year-old Indian-origin man was arrested in Florida after he was allegedly caught driving at speeds of up to 125 mph while dangerously weaving through traffic. The accused, identified as Arul Nayak of Palm Coast, was spotted by Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, who was travelling in an unmarked agency vehicle with his wife to a dinner meeting. According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Staly noticed a white 2016 Dodge Challenger speeding south on Interstate 95. Using his vehicle’s certified speedometer, the sheriff reportedly paced the car at speeds ranging between 115 and 125 mph for nearly six miles. Authorities said the driver moved across all three lanes of traffic and passed within a few feet of slower vehicles, creating a serious risk to other motorists. The sheriff then activated his lights and siren. The driver eventually pulled over on Interstate 95, just south of Old Dixie Highway in Volusia County. Nayak was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with willful and wanton reckless driving and with violating Florida’s “Super Speeder” law. He was lodged in the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $500 bond. Authorities said Nayak had no previous criminal record. He reportedly told the sheriff that he had a final pilot’s examination scheduled for Saturday and hoped to be released from jail in time to take it. “Driving at 125 miles per hour and weaving through three lanes of traffic is not a mistake. It is a decision to gamble with everyone else’s life, including the lives of the three passengers in his own car,” Sheriff Staly said.
