An Indian who had been living in the US for many years recently returned to India.
The main reason for the move was to be closer to family and take care of ageing parents. However, six months after returning, the person said the transition had been much harder than expected and admitted to feeling that they no longer belonged in India.
The person said they often feel lonely because many of their old friends have moved on with their lives. Although they tried to reconnect and rebuild those friendships, they found it difficult.
They also miss the routine, independence and lifestyle they had in the US. This has made them question whether returning to India was the right decision.
The experience highlights how difficult it can be for NRIs to readjust to life in India after spending many years abroad.
Social media users advised the person to give themselves more time to settle in. They suggested making new friends, travelling and exploring different parts of India.
Many also pointed out that six months may be too short a period to fully adjust to such a major life change.
