Shocking Blackmail Case Alarms USA Employers

A disturbing incident from Dallas is serving as a warning for employers who agree to unofficial arrangements involving H-1B visa holders.

It is not uncommon for some H-1B workers who suddenly lose their jobs to seek temporary help from employers within their professional or community networks.

In certain cases, employers agree to run payroll for these individuals, despite not assigning them actual work, so that they can maintain their immigration status while searching for a new opportunity.

Although such arrangements are legally questionable, some employers say they do it out of personal obligation, goodwill or community pressure.

However, a recent case from Dallas highlights the serious risks involved.

According to people familiar with the matter, a software company owner agreed to help an H-1B worker who had lost his job.

The employer began running payroll for the individual and, in return, collected the associated tax expenses along with a nominal service fee.

The arrangement reportedly continued for about three months without issues.

The situation took an unexpected turn when the individual stopped reimbursing the employer for payroll-related expenses.

Instead, he allegedly began threatening the employer, claiming that he would report the arrangement to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if any further payment demands were made.

The matter reportedly escalated further.

The individual allegedly started drawing an actual salary from the company and warned that any attempt to remove him from the payroll would result in complaints being filed with authorities, supported by documentation related to the arrangement.

Such a move could potentially expose the company to legal scrutiny and regulatory consequences.

Friends close to the employer say he has been struggling with the situation for nearly eight months.

The individual is reportedly prepared to face legal consequences himself, but is also determined to implicate the employer if the matter reaches authorities.

The episode is a stark reminder that illegal help can quickly turn into costly liabilities, even for those who fecilitate such arrangements. So employers! beware!
