In a proud moment for the Telugu community and the people of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Arun Mummalaneni and Mr. Sreeni Vavilala were invited to attend the prestigious King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of their long-standing contributions to community service in the United Kingdom.
The King’s Garden Party is one of the most respected annual events hosted by the British Royal Family, recognising individuals who have made exceptional voluntary contributions to society.
Receiving a personal invitation to this event is considered one of the highest honours for community service in the UK, and only a small number of people from immigrant communities receive such recognition.
What makes this achievement even more inspiring is the humble background of both individuals.
Mr. Arun Mummalaneni comes from Moparru village near Tenali in Andhra Pradesh, from a farming family, while Mr. Sreeni Vavilala hails from Salipeta in Akividu, West Godavari district.
From modest middle-class beginnings in rural Andhra Pradesh, both went on to build successful lives in the United Kingdom while remaining deeply connected to their cultural roots and committed to giving back to society.
Fifteen years ago, Arun and Sreeni co-founded the Telugu Association of Basingstoke (TAB) with the vision of supporting Telugu families living in the UK and preserving Indian culture abroad.
Over the years, the organisation evolved beyond a cultural association and became a platform for wider social impact, supporting not only the Telugu community but also several Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities across Basingstoke and surrounding areas.
Under their leadership, the organisation has successfully delivered several impactful community initiatives including:
Cyber Security Awareness Programmes for ethnic minority communities to improve digital safety and online awareness
Cancer Awareness Campaigns promoting healthy living and early detection through expert medical sessions
The annual TTD Srinivasa Kalyanam celebrations in Basingstoke for the past four years, bringing priests from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and promoting Indian spiritual and cultural heritage in the UK
Speaking after attending the royal event, both leaders described the invitation as a proud moment not just for themselves, but for the wider Telugu and Indian communities abroad.
They attended the event in traditional Indian attire to proudly represent their Indian heritage and Telugu roots at Buckingham Palace.
During the garden party, they had the opportunity to interact with members of the Royal Family and community leaders from across the United Kingdom.
The recognition has been widely appreciated by members of the Indian diaspora, who see it as an inspiring example of how dedication to community service and cultural values can earn respect and recognition at the highest levels of British society.
Their journey — from small towns and farming backgrounds in Andhra Pradesh to being honoured at Buckingham Palace — stands as a powerful inspiration for young people, proving that with hard work, humility, and commitment to society, global recognition is possible regardless of one’s background.
