Spotlight: Is Virginity Before Marriage Necessary?

The most priced possession for any woman is meant to be its virginity and considering a traditional country like India, the essence of this becomes even more stronger. The conventional Indian woman even today believes about the losing of virginity to her husband.
 
However, with modern times setting in and the new age woman wanting to come out of the kitchen, her ideals and outlook towards life has changed drastically. One important aspect among that happens to be the virginity. Well…to put it plain today the question is posed by the women as to how important is virginity before marriage. For an average Indian man, this holds a lot of importance but then that may not be the case anymore with the fairer sex. Recently, women from different age groups from different walks of life were asked and this is what they have to say. Nitasha, an MBA student said “I think it is the trust factor which is more important than the virginity aspect, just because I lose my virginity to my husband, it doesn’t mean that our relationship is going to be happy forever”.
 
Vijayalakshmi, a bank employee and mother of two grown up daughters says “Though this is not discussed with children, I firmly believe that a girl must never indulge in an activity that can compromise her integrity, it is not about proving a point but a test of character and principles”.
 
Rama Rao, manager with a private firm said “I got married recently but I never gave a thought on my wife’s virginity. For me, the life ahead and the understanding factor matters as that is the real root of happiness”.
 
However, Srinivas, a software professional said “Whatever may be the situation, it is imperative that a girl should be a virgin before marriage. It is not about our tradition but there is a real good reason why our elders have put this in the society. Perhaps that is one reason why our country is still respected in the outside world.” But Shalini, another IT professional says “virginity is hardly an issue and I will not marry a man who wants to know about my virginity, it is me and not my personal parts that he should be interested in.”
 
Mukund Rao, Railways employee said “the choice must be left to the man and wife about such issues. There are times when the virginity topic may not be confirmed if the girl happens to be a sportswoman or does lot of physical activity. And keeping the scientific side apart, a relationship is about feelings so a physical attribute is always debatable”.
 
Overall, the trend has been that women no longer feel virginity is an aspect to judge their character but then it is an unwritten code of moral code which always holds a virgin woman before marriage at a very high esteem and regard, so the choice is yours ladies..
