It has been quite a while since the talks and dilemma has been on as to who is the rightful successor to the chair of the departed leader Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. Just when everyone thought that his son Y S Jagan would just walk his way through and take over the mantle, it looks like the central command in Delhi has got other plans.
As per the latest news, it is being said that a status quo of sorts will continue for a longer time. Meanwhile, the analysts have begun to assess the credibility of Jagan as the right man for the CMâs post. They say that any party runs with the charisma and strength of one single individual and his identity. For instance, Narendra Modi is the man when it comes to Gujarat, Karunanidhi is the one name for Tamilnadu DMK party.
But when it comes to congress, there are many leaders and that too with years of political experience. So the general perception is that it was not until YSR came along that a new identity has been created for the congress party among the people of Andhra Pradesh. Now, the legacy of YS can only be continued with the arrival of Jagan since many feel that he can hold the leaders together and at the same time, the peopleâs perspective towards Congress doesnât waver. It is also said that any other person taking up the post of the CM will dilute the current tempo with which Congress has been ruling the roost.
Recently, Sonia Gandhi mentioned that party is important than the person and a similar formula is being applied for the Andhra Pradesh congress as well. But then, many say that there are times when parties survive only on individual charisma and even the faith of the people in the party is restored only through such men. While it is a fact that Jagan may not have it easy when and if he becomes the CM, the element of truth is there will be a shade of appeal he would have with the people given his fatherâs impact and the connection with the common man is important for any political party to survive.
This is a rather delicate time for the AP congress and the edge of benefit is YS Jagan but the decision on him is likely to be taken at a later stage. However, if the Congress party can have a united future in AP, it appears that Jagan is one man who can sail them across.
