TANA Governing Board Members Facing the Tide of Telugu Community Anger

TANA Governing Board members had to face a big embarrassment by directly tasting the stiff opposition from the Chicago Telugu Community on Saturday, 10/25/08. This is the first time most of the GB members have come in to public gathering since announcing the illegal removal of President Prabhakar Chowdary Kakarala. They have chosen to ignore the resolutions of General Body but they couldn’t escape the public anger is very much underlined. Community opposition is more deeply rooted than most of these expelled GB members realize. None of them may really want to admit it in public.

It is easy to take decisions behind closed doors and send emails with false framing but they must be realistic about the limitations of their own influence in the Telugu Community. Mohan Nannapaneni, past treasurer and expelled TANA member illegally opened an account in Marlboro (Boston, MA) branch and transferred all existing TANA funds from Official TANA operating account during last week of September.  According to the Branch Manager, Mohan Nannapaneni recently walked in to the Branch, closed this account also and diverted the funds. With in one month he moved the funds twice and at this point no one knows where the money (approx. $250,000) is and given the current economy conditions, one can’t guess his intentions behind these moves and TANA members are worried about the TANA funds. These actions will contribute to the broad-based opposition among the members.

Clearly, the Telugu Community is in a rotten mood because of this kind of actions. Chicago Telugu Community strikes a big blow against the stubbornness of authoritarianism of the Governing Board members especially – Jayaram Komati, Chowdary Jampala, Yugandhar Yadlapati, Mohan Nannapaneni and Prasad Thotakura — who instigated the present situation. They haven’t expected the extent of the opposition that they were not allowed to go on stage during TTA Diwali celebrations.
