Dallas, TX: Telugu Association of North America (TANA) hosted a fundraising luncheon on Saturday, September 26th in Dallas to support Telugu Courses at UT Austin was a great success.  Smt.  D. Purnadeswari, Hon. Minister of Human Resource Development (Higher Education) Govt. of India, attended the event as a Chief Guest. This event was co-hosted by the Telugu Association of North Texas (TANTEX).


Ramki Chebrolu, “Telugu Language Committee Chairman – TANA” welcomed the Chief Guest and the gathering and appreciated everyone’s contribution to support Telugu courses at UT Austin.


Dr. Sridhar Reddy Korsapati, TANTEX President “I’m personally very impressed when Brain, an American born UT Austin student, spoke Telugu very fluently and glad to co host this event”.


Jayaram Komati, TANA President said  “TANA has been serving the community for the last 35 years with a dedication and this is one of our important projects. We are financially supporting UT Austin Telugu program for the last three years and if we continue our support for two more years this program will be the integral part of South Asian Studies of UT Austin”.


Anupama Atluru, a UT Austin student impressed the crowd in speaking in Telugu very fluently. She said that she enjoyed taking Telugu courses at UT Austin. 


Afsar Mohammad,  Telugu Professor at UT Austin in his speech narrated the importance of learning Telugu. He mentioned that enrollment at Austin this year also very encouraging and students are learning Telugu with a passion.      


Prasad Thotakura, TANA Executive Vice-President while introducing the Chief Guest Hon. Minister D. Purandeswari to the audience lauded her role in getting Telugu recognized as one of the ancient languages by the Central Government of India.


Hon. Minister Smt. D. Purandeswari appreciated TANA’s efforts in preserving and perpetuating the Telugu language in USA. She elaborated the history of Telugu and the richness of our culture. She mentioned that it is very important for parents to speak Telugu with their children at home and the language is the link to our culture.


Ram Yalamanchili, TANA Treasurer introduced all donors who supported the cause. Minister D. Purandeswari presented mementos to all donors.


TANA President Jayaram Komati, conferred the “Pride of India” award on Hon. Minister Purandeswari. TANTEX President Dr. Sridhar Reddy Korsapati, Mrs. Kalyani Prasad, Mrs. Anuradha Chebrolu and Mrs. Brahamarmba Kondrakunta felicitated the Minister with a bouquet of flowers and a memento.


Hon. Minister unveiled “Dallas Convention Center” as the venue for the upcoming 19th TANA Conference to be held in Dallas in 2013 from July4th-July6th.


Murali Vennam, TANA South West Regional Director in his vote of thanks address thanked Hon. Minister D. Purandeswari, all donors, attendees, TANTEX, Pasand Indian Cuisine for providing sumptuous lunch for the occasion.
