Telugu Association of Southern California (TASC) celebrated Ugadi festival on April 12th 2008 at Duarte Performing Arts Center from 5PM to 11PM. It was a grand affair with all attendees. The hosts and all the guests, thoroughly enjoyed the auspicious event. The whole atmosphere inside was joyful, with kids everywhere with bright smiles lighting up the entire place. Over 800 people attended the event that was filled with tons of fun and excitement, true to the spirit of celebrating and showcasing our telugu culture. Mouth watering traditional Andhra dishes were served by the local restaurant ‘Masala Bowl’ and the main item “Ugadi Pachhadi” signifying the importance of UGADI was also served.
The program traditionally started with lamp lighting by Mr & Mrs. Papi Reddy, who were the main guest for the program. The event was filled with cultural programs like bharatha natyam, janapadha nruthyalu, folk dances, drama, mimicry etc., which were performed by local participants from Southern California. The main highlight of the event that captured the hearts of the audience was ‘Dhinaka Din Dhin’ performed by 45 artists. The whole event entirely represented our pure Telugu culture and heritage without even a single program having movie songs. All the cultural programs was very well planned and organized under the leadership of Cultural Chair Vidya Tadanki.
Mr.Natraj Madireddy (TASC President) welcomed the guests and wished everyone a wonderful New Year. He thanked everyone for their hard work for setting up a wonderful event with a decent blend of Music, dance, drama, skits etc. He also briefed about the history of TASC and emphaized its role in promoting Telugu culture and heritage among the new generation. He thanked all the members of TASC for their generous support and contributions. In a special ‘Thank you’ note Mr.Natraj Madireddy thanked the entire TASC team, sponsors and also the community for making this event a wonderful one to remember forever. He promised to bring forward many more future events in the coming months to assist and promote telugu culture, social and community activities among the telugu people in Southern California. Mr.Suneel Ralangi (TASC Secretary) introduced the 2008 TASC Executive Board & committee chairs and later Mr.Anil Arrabelli(TASC Past President) was felicitated for his achievements and contributions towards TASC during his tenure in 2007.
The program came to an end with vote of thanks by Mr.Suneel Ralangi(TASC Secretary). He also expressed his sincere thanks to the sponsors and the entire TASC committee in organizing this memorable event.
