Usha Chowdhary: Political, Film Rallies Turning Death Valleys

Politics has always been looked as a dirty game but off late it has degraded to such an extent that every single incident or tragedy is being used as a mileage for political gains. Taking a leaf from this is the film industry now and they seem to have forgotten the basic ethics of being born as a human being and take a sort of sadistic triumph at the cost of innocent and ignorant lives.

The admiration for film stars and those who associate with the political movements is in rather high quantities in our state. There are many examples of fans waiting from the previous evening to catch the morning show of their favorite heroes on the day of the release. However, the admiration is so maddening that in their urge to get the tickets, they are ending up losing their lives in stampedes.

Similarly, the political rallies have become one big fair where the politicians and the stars involved would just pass by the road never to turn back and see what good they can do to those thousands that come just to catch a glimpse. Yet again in these situations, people have been dying leaving their family members in the lurch.

What is more painful in all this is the reaction from these leaders and stars who tend to take the number of deaths as a mark of success let alone sympathize for what has happened and plan for an alternative to avoid such mishaps in the future. There are those in the film industry who reveal the insane mentalities of few heroes keen on knowing the number of deaths during their movie releases only to be sure of the kind of impact and hit the movie will turn out to be.

While some are arguing the point that compensation is given to those who are dead, of what use is an amount of one or two lakhs for a family that has to get through with the current living condition and the sky rocketing prices of daily needs. In no time, the amounts will vaporize like camphor but the vacuum and trauma created by a single death will haunt the house for the rest of their lives.

It is about time the politicians and stars take a personal responsibility and look at putting an end to such rallies. The real admiration and respect for someone is not shown by the number of people who attend such gatherings. For a true leader, it is the number of votes and for a true and admirable star, it is the collections at the box office that proves their real strength and character.
