Youth gets focus in 10th ATA Conference

Only few days left for 10th ATA Conference Youth Convention to be held in prudential Center, New Jersey from July 3 to 5. Speaking  on the Conference Dr. Chandra Reddy Gavva, President, American Telugu Association said  ”Being the 10th convention, we started the conference with a theme of ‘Dasamavataram- Telugu Talliki Haram – Yuvataraniki Dwaram ‘ meaning 10th stage of ATA respecting the Telugu and welcoming the Youth and we are happy that all of  our activities confirming the theme chosen.

The ATA Youth Committee is excited to present our official 2008 Youth Conference in Newark, NJ! We have so many wonderful things planned to ensure that young Telugus will learn about our amazing culture, make new friends and catch up with old ones, as well as have a memorable time in NYC!
 
Day Events
1. Competitions, from game shows such as Jeopardy and Family Feud, to our Virtual Games including Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Wee sports to our time honored traditions of a Basketball tournament and the Idly eating competition – there is enough to challenge you! This year we are also hosting a Rummy and Poker tournament with great prizes for the winners! So, if you like some friendly competition, come join us at one of these events!

2. Workshops – Sick of your Mom dressing you in your Sari? Wondering if you’ll ever know how to re-create that Pappu or Dosa that you’ve grown to love? Tired of going to India and speaking Telunglish? Well, we are going to help you with all those skills with various workshops including language lessons, cooking classes, and other How-to- sessions to help you hold on to our amazing culture … so you can pass it down to the next generation one day!

3. Career Mentoring –  What better way to get good advice than from people just like you? Our first Career Mentoring program is designed to guide you through those difficult steps – from college and graduate applications, to personal statements and resume writing, to job interviews – we will have people who have just gone through these stages help you with your journey! Network with each other and maybe a door will open for you …

4. Mind and Body – Relax with our Yoga morning class or dance into shape with our Tollywood Aerobics class! We will also be hosting fun and interactive spirituality discussions and lectures so you can learn the fundamentals of religion and how to integrate those principles into your daily life. 

5. Singles Events- Start mingling and perhaps you’ll find the perfect match! For the first time, Shaadi.com will be hosting singles mixers for making friends.. and maybe even life-long love! Events will be held daily to keep us on our toes for meeting new people!

6. Other fun activities – The Great Debate will allow Youth Members and even Aunties/Uncles to interact on controversial issues like dating/marriage, school and social life, and much more. If we can all see each other’s perspectives, maybe we will finally find solutions to those Golden Issues!

Beautify yourself with at our Mehndi Party! It will be a little personal souvenier to take home from the convention!

Show of your Mom’s delicious cooking at our first ever Top Muruku Mom and Kaju Burfi Queen Competition! Items made with made with love by both you and your mom will be judged & awarded prizes!

Night Events:
1. Thursday night kicks off our weekend with a Dinner Cruise around NYC! Enjoy the sights of the Big Apple as we sail around the Statue of Liberty, under the Brooklyn Bridge, and continue on the Hudson to give you breathtaking view of the NYC skyline at night! Enjoy this while meeting all the new people you will get to know more of during the next few days! Don’t forget your dancing shoes- One of New York’s Top Desi DJs, DJ Sharard will be mixing the beats all night! Once we are finished filling our stomachs and dancing under the NYC stars, we will laugh the rest of the night away with our first Comedy Show! We will feature 3 comedians who have toured all over the country, even working with major names like Russel Peters. Vijai Nathan, Rajiv Satyal and Dan Nainan will entertain you into the night with their acts!

2. Friday will showcase our talents on the mainstage with our Cultural Show! Traditions like our Fashion Show and Comedy Skits will blow you away while new events such as our Mr. and Mrs. ATA pageant, So You Think You Can Dance competition finals, and the Family Feud finals will keep you keep you on the edge of your seat! Come support your Youth talent and watch this amazing show! Then …. “After the show is the After Party and after the Party is the Hotel Lobby”! Enjoy the Fire and Ice – Vegas Style party at the Hilton. If you are feeling lucky, play at any one of the gaming tables – Poker, Blackjack, Roulette, or Craps! Prizes will be awarded at the end of the night for the top winners! Don’t have the greatest hand? Well if you’re feeling HOT, get on the dance floor with one of DJ Sharad’s best with amazing beats.. or just sit back and CHILL in our Ice lounge!

3. Saturday night ends our fabulous weekend in NYC! We will dance the night away at the exclusive Webster Hall Nightclub in Manhattan with the hottest NYC DJs! Find out why its called “The city that never sleeps” with all your new friends from your ATA Youth experience. After a long night of dancing and mingling, we’ll even have door service for you if you’re on the ATA loop of Hotels!
