Commercial era started in Tollywood in 1948

The year 1948 has been earmarked as the most significant year in the history of Telugu cinema since the analysts feel that this was the first year where commercial cinema made its debut and was received very well by the audience.

The great NTR made his debut with ‘Mana Desam’ while ANR was seen in the film ‘Balaraju’ which was a big hit, later the shooting of ‘Keelu Gurram’ also started and this year Ghantasala took to music direction. Even LV Prasad shot to fame with his commercial venture ‘Drohi’.

In wake of the above examples, this year comes across as a crucial moment in the film history where commercial cinema was welcome and from then on till date there has been no turning back and now historical epics have become a rare find while 90% films are commercial.
