The appointment of prominent Tollywood producer and distributor P. Bharat Bhushan as chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Film, TV and Theatre Development Corporation (APSFTTDC) is being seen in political and film circles as yet another snub to Jana Sena Party president and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan in the coalition government headed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
It was only last year that Pawan Kalyan had publicly proposed the name of senior producer A.M. Ratnam for the APSFTTDC chairman post.
During the promotions of his film Hari Hara Veera Mallu in July 2025, Pawan openly stated that he had recommended Ratnam’s name to Naidu for the post.
Pawan had justified the recommendation by highlighting Ratnam’s vast experience in the film industry, his long association with leading actors across multiple languages, and his understanding of the production ecosystem.
He had also expressed confidence that Ratnam’s appointment would help strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s engagement with the Telugu film fraternity and aid the development of the entertainment sector.
However, after remaining silent on Pawan Kalyan’s recommendation, Naidu eventually chose P. Bharat Bhushan for the APSFTTDC chairman post, triggering speculation over whether Pawan’s suggestion was ignored.
Since the Deputy Chief Minister had made the proposal publicly, the latest appointment is being interpreted by some observers as a political snub to the Jana Sena chief.
Analysts point out that this is not the first instance where individuals associated with Pawan Kalyan or Jana Sena were reportedly overlooked despite public assurances or political expectations.
One such example is the denial of a cabinet berth to Pawan Kalyan’s elder brother and senior Jana Sena leader Naga Babu, even after Naidu issued a public statement saying that Naga Babu would be inducted into the cabinet.
Even after giving Naga Babu an MLC post, Naidu did not induct him into the cabinet.
Though there were reports that Pawan Kalyan himself had changed his mind about taking his elder brother into the cabinet, no official announcement was made, leading to disappointment among sections of Jana Sena cadres.
Similarly, former minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy, who joined Jana Sena after distancing himself from the YSR Congress Party, is yet to receive any significant political rehabilitation.
Balineni’s entry into Jana Sena was widely seen as a strategic political move encouraged by Pawan Kalyan, with strong expectations that he would be accommodated through an MLC berth or another key position.
However, despite months passing since his induction into the party, no such appointment has materialised so far.
This has led to talk over whether Pawan Kalyan is being taken lightly by the TDP leadership, though both Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh appear to be giving due respect to the Jana Sena chief publicly.
