Nagabandham is the film that was released a couple of days ago. Inside sources say that the film was originally planned with Rana Daggubati in the lead role.
When the story was narrated to him, he reportedly gave a positive nod but, the project did not move forward due to excessive delay in taking the final decision.
Later, Miriyala Ravinder, the uncle of actor Virat Karna, came to know about the project.
With his involvement, the film was taken over, with the same production and direction team but with Virat Karna as the hero.
Initially, the film was planned on a budget of around Rs. 45 crore. However, the costs kept escalating and eventually touched nearly Rs. 110 crore.
Sources say that although some members of the crew advised the makers to control the budget, warning that the soaring costs could lead to a catastrophe, the producers believed in the story and the director and continued investing.
Ultimately, what should be understood is that the film was made more on assumptions, relationships and belief than on practical calculations.
Had the film turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office, the situation would have been entirely different.
The producers would have been hailed for their bold decision and praised for backing the project based on those very assumptions, relationships, and beliefs.
But since the result has gone the other way, many are now saying that films should be made only with careful calculations and nothing else.
As for Rana Daggubati, had the film become a huge success, he might have felt that he had missed a golden opportunity. But given the outcome, he may instead feel relaxed.
