Suriya’s film Karuppu, titled Veera Bhadrudu in Telugu, was scheduled to release in theatres today. However, the film failed to arrive in cinemas after running into last-minute financial hurdles.
According to our sources, the film faced a “red card” from financiers. The producers reportedly owe more than Rs 50 crore to financiers from several previous productions.
To protect his reputation and ensure the film’s release, Suriya has now personally stepped in to resolve the issue.
Industry insiders say Suriya is likely to provide a personal guarantee for the pending amount. Once the agreements are signed, the film is expected to make it to theatres.
Recently, Karthi’s film Vaa Vaathiyar, titled Anna Garu Vostaru in Telugu, also reportedly faced similar financial hurdles.
Karthi is said to have reduced his remuneration to help the film secure its release, though it eventually arrived in theatres two weeks late.
Suriya now needs to steady his career and regain his former glory.
Once regarded as one of the biggest stars in South India, he has seen his box office pull affected by a string of poor script choices in recent years.
