Whenever a big-ticket film announces its release date, it often creates a ripple effect and this time, it involves Prabhas’s Spirit and Salman Khan’s upcoming film with director Vamshi Paidipally (tentatively titled SVC63).
Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was initially scheduled to release on March 5, 2027. However, according to trade sources, the film has now been pushed to December 1, 2027.
The reason? Salman Khan has locked the Eid 2027 window falling in early March for his next film, which reportedly stars Nayanthara. With that prime holiday slot taken, it did not make sense for Spirit to release in the same period.
Industry insiders say this is a strategic move rather than a delay caused by production issues.
Vanga’s films typically depend on strong word-of-mouth and uninterrupted theatrical runs, making it important to avoid clashes.
Interestingly, the new release date; December 1holds significance for Vanga, as his previous blockbuster Animal (2023) was also released on the same day.
Spirit, which pairs Prabhas with Triptii Dimri, is currently under production. Sources say the director is maintaining an aggressive shooting schedule and aims to complete filming by early 2027.
The shift also allows ample time for post-production work, including editing, background score, and preparing versions in multiple languages.
Meanwhile, Prabhas is also busy with the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, which is currently being shot in Hyderabad.
The development once again highlights a growing trend in the industry; big films are increasingly avoiding direct box office clashes to maximise returns.
