Kriti Sanon has opened up about an unpleasant experience with an unnamed male co-star, revealing that he allegedly tried to decide how much she should be involved in the promotions of their film.
Speaking to Lilly Singh, Kriti said she found the behaviour both strange and disrespectful.
“I found that so weird and almost disrespectful. I felt if you don’t need me for promotions, then you should promote the film alone,” she said.
According to Kriti, the situation left her upset enough to step away from most of the promotional campaign.
The actress said she eventually attended one event only after the film’s director personally requested her to participate.
“A lot of it, I just backed out,” Kriti revealed.
Though she did not name the actor or the film, her comments have sparked fresh discussion about power equations between male and female stars in the film industry.
In many big films, male stars continue to dominate publicity campaigns, while actresses are often expected to follow decisions made by others.
Kriti’s remarks suggest that even established actresses can sometimes face unequal treatment when it comes to visibility and promotional space.
Her response, however, was clear.
Instead of accepting the situation quietly, Kriti chose to distance herself from the promotions, making it evident that she was not comfortable being treated like a secondary presence in a film she had worked on.
The actress has not revealed whether the issue was later resolved, but her comments have once again highlighted a familiar industry debate — when a film has both a hero and a heroine, who gets to call the shots?
For Kriti, at least, the answer seems simple: respect should not depend on gender.
