Actress Kriti Sanon has responded to criticism over her outfit in a Raksha Bandhan advertisement for jewellery brand GIVA.
She wore an off-white bralette-style blouse with a cape and draped skirt. The look was criticised on social media, with some saying it was unsuitable for a traditional festival.
Kriti said festivals are not only about clothes but about feelings, family, and the meaning behind traditions.
She explained that Raksha Bandhan celebrates the promise of protection and love between family members.
She also said she and her sister Nupur tie rakhi to each other because they believe they can protect one another.
She also defended the advertisement’s decision to include their dog. Kriti said protection and love can include pets too because they are family.
She questioned why women are still judged in public for their clothing during festivals and celebrations.
Kriti said ethnic fashion has changed with time and a woman’s respect for her culture should not be decided by her neckline or clothes.
She believes culture and traditions come from the heart, emotions, and values, not from outward appearance.
