Veteran actress Sowcar Janaki passed away at the age of 94. She died in a Chennai hospital while receiving treatment for age-related health problems. Her family confirmed the news.
Janaki had a long career in Indian cinema. She worked for more than seven decades. She acted in over 400 films across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages.
She became famous with the Telugu film Shavukaru. The film also gave her the name “Sowcar” Janaki. She later became a popular actress in several South Indian film industries.
Janaki worked with many famous actors and directors. Her performances were known for their emotional depth and versatility. She also acted in many stage plays during her career.
Her contribution to cinema received several honours. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2022. She also received awards from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for her work.
