Lenin was released recently to a mixed response from audiences, but one aspect that has received widespread appreciation is Akhil Akkineni’s hard work.
The film may have divided opinion over its content, but Akhil has arguably delivered the finest performance of his career.
His effort is visible in every frame, particularly in the way he portrays a rugged yet emotionally vulnerable village character with remarkable sincerity.
One sequence that stands out is the scene in which Getup Srinu’s character throws a chemical into Akhil’s eyes.
The pain, helplessness, and emotional turmoil Akhil conveys in that scene are deeply moving.
More importantly, he sheds all traces of starry mannerisms and fully embraces a grounded character driven by love, emotion, and suffering, while still fighting like a star whenever the situation demands it. His willingness to completely surrender to the role deserves appreciation.
Lenin also sends a strong message to filmmakers. Akhil has shown that he is ready to take on rooted stories, rustic backdrops, and performance-driven characters.
It gives writers and directors the confidence to develop a wider range of scripts with him in mind, rather than limiting him to conventional romantic roles.
There is certainly room for further growth, especially in today’s highly competitive industry, where audiences expect consistently outstanding performances.
However, Akhil appears to have found the right path.
Just as Mahesh Babu broke away from his “chocolate hero” image with Pokiri, Lenin could become the turning point that redefines Akhil’s career and opens the door to many more memorable roles.
