Another Mega Film Falls: Is August Really Cursed?

Another Mega Film Falls: Is August Really Cursed?

Jailer released in August and became a huge blockbuster. But apart from that, several big-budget pan-India films released in August have failed at the box office.

Looking at the recent trend, some are even wondering whether August is simply not a lucky month for expensive pan-India films.

The list is quite long. Prabhas’ Saaho, Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger, Rajinikanth’s Coolie and NTR-Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 all released in August. All of them were mounted on a big scale and targeted audiences across India, but none managed to create the expected impact.

Now, Yash’s Toxic has also joined this list.

The film arrived in theatres with massive hype and expectations. However, the response was disappointing from the first day itself. Negative talk spread quickly, and on the second day, collections reportedly dropped by 64%.

This has once again brought the “August sentiment” into discussion.

Interestingly, the makers of Toxic had not originally planned to release the film in August. It was supposed to arrive much earlier, but due to several reasons, the release was postponed and eventually landed in this month.

Some Yash fans are now joking that things might have been different if the film had released on its original date.

Of course, a film’s success depends on content, audience response, competition and many other factors. But with several big pan-India films failing in August, the sentiment has certainly become an interesting talking point.
