Kandula Durgesh, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Cinematography and Tourism, has proposed an idea aimed at promoting tourism through Telugu cinema.
The minister suggested that Telugu films should display the names of scenic locations filmed in Andhra Pradesh as on-screen subtitles whenever such visuals appear in movies.
According to Durgesh, showcasing location names on screen could help boost tourism by making audiences aware of beautiful destinations across Andhra Pradesh.
He cited the example of Pushpa: The Rise, after which the forest regions of Maredumilli reportedly gained popularity among tourists and filmmakers alike.
The minister stated that Andhra Pradesh has many unexplored scenic spots and displaying their names during films could encourage people to visit those places, thereby helping local tourism and regional economies.
However, the proposal has triggered mixed reactions on social media.
While some appreciated the tourism-focused idea, others felt it may not be practical to implement creatively in commercial cinema.
So far, the Telugu film industry has not officially responded to the minister’s suggestion.
