Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni may have delivered much-needed successes at the Telugu box office, but both have fallen short of a key milestone in the North American market.
Naga Chaitanya’s Thandel emerged as a commercial success in the Telugu states. However, the film failed to cross the coveted $1 million mark in North America, ending its run below expectations despite its strong domestic performance.
Akhil Akkineni faced a similar situation with Lenin. After a series of disappointments, the film finally gave him a much-needed success in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. However, its overseas performance remained modest.
As things stand, Lenin is expected to end its North American run with a lifetime gross of a little over $800,000, well short of the $1 million milestone.
While both films helped the Akkineni brothers regain momentum at the Telugu box office, they also highlight their continuing struggle to deliver a breakthrough hit in the crucial North American market, where the $1 million benchmark remains an important indicator of overseas success.
