Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups continues its downward spiral at the box office after opening to mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and audiences.
Yash’s massive stardom and the huge pre-release hype helped the film post a record-breaking opening. Toxic collected around Rs 101 crore net in India on Day 1, making it one of the biggest domestic openings of the year.
However, the momentum did not last.
The film witnessed a sharp drop over the following days, with collections falling to Rs 37.65 crore and then slipping further through the weekend.
The biggest setback came on Monday, when Toxic collected just Rs 7.45 crore. Tuesday showed only a marginal improvement, with around Rs 7.85 crore.
On Wednesday, Day 8, the film reportedly fell again and collected just Rs 3.81 crore — its lowest single-day collection so far.
With this, Toxic has reportedly collected around Rs 233.41 crore net in India in eight days, while the India gross stands at approximately Rs 278.75 crore.
The Kannada version contributed around Rs 1.08 crore on Wednesday, while the Hindi version collected about Rs 2.32 crore.
At the current pace, the film could find it difficult to add significantly to its total in the coming days unless it witnesses a strong turnaround over the second weekend.
The comparison with Yash’s previous blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 makes the decline even more striking. KGF 2 had reportedly collected around Rs 430.15 crore net in India within its first five days.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria in prominent roles.
The film was released in theatres on August 26 and has also attracted attention for its intimate scenes and its portrayal of women in certain sequences.
With weekday collections falling sharply, Toxic now faces a tough road ahead at the box office.
