Iran Goes Filmy to Mock Trump, Shares Balayya Movie Clip
Iran has turned to Telugu cinema to respond to US President Donald Trump’s latest warning against the Islamic Republic. The Iranian Embassy in Zimbabwe shared a 58-second clip from Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Bhagavanth Kesari on X, using the action sequence to mock Trump’s remarks at the United Nations General Assembly. The clip shows Balakrishna in an intense face-off involving armed men, rifles and riot shields. Sharing the video, the embassy sarcastically suggested that the Trump administration had started watching Indian films instead of Hollywood and stressed that Iran was “not defenseless.” The post came after Trump used strong language against Iran during his UN General Assembly address on September 22. Trump said he faced a “big decision” over whether a deal could be reached that would allow Iran to rebuild or whether he should “annihilate the Islamic Republic” if no agreement was achieved. He also said he believed a deal could still be reached. The Iranian embassy’s choice of a Balakrishna action scene quickly attracted attention online, particularly among Telugu cinema fans, turning a geopolitical exchange into an unexpected Tollywood moment. Iranian officials have separately rejected Trump’s threats and warned that the country would respond strongly to further military action. The Bhagavanth Kesari clip is the latest example of official Iranian social-media accounts using memes and popular-culture references while responding to political developments involving the United States.
