The race to bring Lord Murugan’s story to the big screen has become more interesting.
Just days after discussions began around NTR and Trivikram Srinivas’s ambitious mythological drama, God of War, actor Dhanush and director Vetrimaaran officially announced Thamizh Murugan.
The announcement immediately sparked comparisons between the two projects, as both are reportedly centred on Lord Murugan, one of the most revered deities in South India.
For months, there was speculation that Dhanush might reunite with director Shankar for his next film or take up a major multi-starrer.
Instead, he has chosen to team up once again with Vetrimaaran, with whom he has delivered several acclaimed films in the past.
The announcement makes it clear that Thamizh Murugan will be his immediate next project.
The timing has drawn attention because God of War, starring NTR and directed by Trivikram, has already generated considerable buzz.
However, it is still too early to treat the two films as direct competitors. Their interpretations, storytelling styles, scale and release timelines could be completely different.
While Trivikram is expected to present a grand pan-India mythological spectacle, Vetrimaaran may choose a more rooted and culturally nuanced approach, in keeping with his filmmaking style.
