Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, has received a strong response in advance bookings, with more than 2.5 lakh tickets reportedly sold across India ahead of its release.
The political action drama has generated huge excitement among Vijay’s fans, particularly in Tamil Nadu.
The Telugu version, titled Jana Nayakudu, is scheduled to release on July 23. However, the same level of excitement is yet to be seen in the Telugu states.
Trade circles say that many viewers believe the film is a remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Bhagavanth Kesari. Since it is also a dubbed Tamil film, the buzz has remained limited so far.
Another factor affecting its Telugu prospects is the release of Chennai Love Story, a straight Telugu film, on July 24, just a day later.
The romantic drama is expected to attract younger audiences and compete for screens.
Despite the slow start in Telugu, Jana Nayakudu still has the advantage of Vijay’s popularity. Strong word of mouth and positive reviews could help the film gain momentum after release.
Trade experts believe its Telugu box-office performance may improve once the film hits theatres. For now, however, the massive frenzy seen in Tamil Nadu has not yet spread to the Telugu market.
With three days still left before release, it remains to be seen whether the buzz will pick up in the Telugu states.
