Just Like Indian Is for Kamal, Sardar Is for Me: Karthi

Just Like Indian Is for Kamal, Sardar Is for Me: Karthi

Karthi’s Sardar 2, the much-awaited sequel to his successful spy thriller Sardar, is set to arrive in cinemas on the 10th of this month.

The team held the film’s pre-release event in Hyderabad in the presence of the entire cast and crew, along with guests Adivi Sesh, Boyapati Sreenu, Sailesh Kolanu and Kalyan Shankar.

SJ Suryah, who plays the antagonist in the film, expressed strong confidence in the sequel.

“Sardar was already a huge hit here and also received an amazing response on OTT. Sardar 2 is going to offer double the excitement. Compared to Sardar, the sequel has extraordinary entertainment, fights and content,” he said.

SJ Suryah also highlighted director PS Mithran’s ability to communicate important social issues through commercial cinema. He revealed that Sardar 2 deals with global warming, following the first film’s focus on plastic bottles.

“You can’t just watch Sardar 2 for the entertainment, action and mass masala and leave it in the theatre. You have to take it home, keep it in your heart, think about it and plan life better,” he said.

Adivi Sesh also expressed his admiration for Karthi and the Sardar franchise.

“I like Karthi a lot. As an audience member, he has three or four of my all-time favourite films, whether it is Kaithi, Aayirathil Oruvan (Yuganiki Okkadu) or Awara,” he said.

Recalling his theatrical experience of watching Sardar, Sesh said, “When I watched Sardar in the theatre, I shouted and screamed just like all of you are doing here at this event. I enjoyed it that much. I love the whole father angle, and I think it is going to be extraordinary.”

Karthi thanked Telugu audiences for showering immense love on his films.

Reflecting on the first film in the franchise, he said, “When I was doing the first film itself, I had a very good feeling because spy roles rarely get appreciation. No one knows about them, but they do their work so specially and precisely. Just like Indian is for Kamal Haasan, Sardar is for me.”

He added that Sardar has developed a strong fan base in Telugu and described Sardar 2 as a very important film in his career.

“Before watching Sardar 2, watch Sardar once. If you do, you will connect with the sequel even better,” he said.

Karthi also spoke about the film’s technical scale.

“When we watch so many English films, we often feel, ‘Can’t we make such stylish action films?’ All of that is fulfilled in this movie. Director PS Mithran’s script, George Williams’ camera work and Sam CS’ music take the film to another level,” he said.

The actor also revealed that the sequel features strong female characters.

“There are two fierce women in the film. You are going to see girl power. There is no dance in this movie; they only do action. So it is going to be special,” he said.

When Adivi Sesh requested Karthi to make a cameo in HIT 4, Karthi responded positively and said it would be great if the two actors could come together for an action sequence.
