The collaboration between S S Rajamouli and M M Keeravani began with Student No. 1 in 2001 and has grown into one of the most successful director-composer partnerships in Indian cinema.
Over the years, the duo has delivered memorable music and background scores for films such as Simhadri, Sye, Chatrapathi, Vikramarkudu, Yamadonga, Magadheera, Maryada Ramanna, Eega, the Baahubali films and RRR.
Keeravani’s music has always played a major role in strengthening Rajamouli’s larger-than-life storytelling and emotional drama.
Their collaboration achieved global recognition with RRR, when “Naatu Naatu” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and also received a Golden Globe.
Rajamouli and Keeravani are now joining hands once again for the director’s ambitious globe-trotting adventure starring Mahesh Babu, tentatively titled Varanasi.
The film is said to be one of Rajamouli’s dream projects and is expected to blend elements inspired by the Ramayana with a massive international action-adventure story.
The makers are reportedly working on an extensive schedule to ensure a grand cinematic experience.
Speaking during his US tour, Keeravani revealed that he would begin composing the film’s music in September.
He is expected to spend nearly five months working on the background score, with the process likely to continue until January 2027.
After the score is completed, the remaining post-production work will continue. The makers are reportedly aiming to have the final version of the film ready by April 2027.
Keeravani’s lengthy schedule indicates that the background music and sound design will play a crucial role in shaping the film’s scale, emotion and overall cinematic impact.
