Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s upcoming action thriller King is shaping up to be one of the costliest Indian films ever made.
Reports claim that the Siddharth Anand directorial is being mounted on a massive budget of nearly Rs 350 crore, excluding print and publicity costs.
The film also marks Suhana Khan’s big-screen debut. Interestingly, King was initially planned as a relatively smaller action thriller, with Sujoy Ghosh directing the project and Shah Rukh Khan appearing in an extended cameo.
However, the scale of the film reportedly changed after Siddharth Anand came on board as director.
According to a Bollywood Hungama report, Shah Rukh gave Siddharth a free hand to turn the project into a grand action spectacle.
The film is slated for release in 2026.
With this reported budget, King joins the list of some of the most expensive Indian films. Films like Ramayana, being made in two parts, are said to be mounted on a massive budget of around Rs 835 crore.
Adipurush was reportedly made on a budget of around Rs 600 crore, while Kalki 2898 AD is also said to have cost over Rs 600 crore.
Other big-budget films include Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, which was reportedly made on a budget of around Rs 410 crore, and Tiger 3, which carried an estimated budget of around Rs 300 crore.
If the reports are accurate, King will be among Bollywood’s biggest action spectacles, with Shah Rukh Khan returning to the high-budget action space after the massive success of Pathaan and Jawan.
