The National Film Awards have created a huge controversy in Tamil cinema.
The debate began after Raayan won a National Award. Many movie lovers questioned how the film received recognition while Vijay Sethupathi’s widely appreciated Maharaja was ignored.
Not only Maharaja, films such as Vaazha and Meiyazhagan were also mentioned in the discussion.
Vikram’s fans were even more upset. They openly expressed disappointment after Thangalaan failed to win an award.
Everyone knows how much effort Vikram put into the film. Making videos showed the actor going through intense physical and emotional strain for the role. Some fans even became emotional after watching his hard work.
They felt that ignoring such a performance was unfair.
Usually, actors remain silent when their award wins become controversial. But Dhanush chose to respond and his comments have further angered fans.
Dhanush said he had delivered several strong films in the past, including Maryan, Vada Chennai, Pudhupettai and Mayakkam Enna.
At the time, many people felt those films deserved National Awards, but very few questioned the jury when they were ignored.
He asked why the same people were now expressing so much anger over Raayan.
Dhanush said nobody had raised their voice when his earlier films missed awards, but everyone was questioning him after Raayan won one.
He also said that the award came to Raayan on its own merit and added that he was set to receive two more National Awards.
His remarks have not calmed the controversy. Instead, they have further angered fans of Vikram and Vijay Sethupathi.
