On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the makers of Ramayana unveiled a new poster featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita.
In the poster, Rama is seen gently placing a flower in Sita’s hair against a beautiful and peaceful backdrop. The romantic visual is accompanied by soft and serene music, highlighting the bond between Rama and Sita.
The promotional material also offers a glimpse of Ravana, with his face initially hidden beneath a shawl. Nitesh Tiwari’s version of the character appears grand, majestic and unconventional.
As Ravana declares his rule over the three worlds — heaven, earth and hell — the story moves towards the birth of Rama, who is destined to protect mankind from his tyranny.
The teaser had earlier introduced Lord Rama while offering shadowy glimpses of Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana.
The trailer introduces several other key characters as well. Lara Dutta plays Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh appears as Shurpanakha, while Vivek Oberoi is seen as Vidyutjihva, the demon prince and husband of Shurpanakha.
However, Sunny Deol, who plays Hanuman, is notably absent from the trailer.
The film promises a massive visual spectacle, with heavy use of CGI and VFX. The makers are attempting to retell the timeless epic with a new generation of actors stepping into some of Indian mythology’s most iconic roles.
Interestingly, Arun Govil, who became widely popular as Lord Rama through television, appears in the film as King Dasharatha, Rama’s father.
Ramayana has reportedly been mounted on a massive budget of around Rs 4,000 crore for both parts.
Producer Namit Malhotra earlier said that when the project was planned several years ago, many people thought the scale was unrealistic.
He revealed that the combined budget for both films would be around $500 million, or more than Rs 4,000 crore.
He said the aim was to make one of the biggest films in the world based on an epic that deserves global presentation, while still keeping the production financially disciplined.
The film will be released in two parts. The first instalment is scheduled to arrive worldwide in October 2026, ahead of Diwali, while the second part is planned for Diwali 2027.
Apart from Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, the film also features Yash, Sunny Deol and Ravi Dubey in important roles.
