SS Rajamouli has clarified that he and his team are not using AI to create the special effects or grand visuals in "Varanasi" as a cost-cutting measure.
He said AI tools are being used only for research and pre-production purposes.
Rajamouli is regarded as a pioneer in visual effects in the Indian film industry, with films such as "Magadheera" and "Baahubali" setting new benchmarks for visual spectacle and pushing the boundaries of Indian cinema.
With AI tools now enabling filmmakers to create impressive visuals at a fraction of the traditional cost, several young filmmakers are exploring the technology in filmmaking.
Rajamouli, who is currently working on "Varanasi" with Mahesh Babu, said he cannot yet imagine the extent to which AI could revolutionise filmmaking. However, he made it clear that he has chosen not to use AI to create the film’s visual effects.
"Varanasi" has almost completed its shooting and is scheduled to hit the screens next year.
