Tamil superstar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s son, Jason Sanjay, is making his directorial debut with Sigma, starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah.
The film could have generated considerable buzz if Vijay had visibly backed his son’s debut. His involvement might have added significant attention to the project and potentially helped its opening prospects.
However, Jason Sanjay and Vijay are reportedly not on good terms. Jason did not attend Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony, and their relationship has been a subject of discussion for some time.
Though Jason has been speaking about his father in recent interviews, their equation does not appear to be that of a regular father and son, at least publicly.
The bigger challenge for Sigma is that Sundeep Kishan is the lead actor.
Despite being in the industry for several years, he has not yet established the kind of star pull that can independently generate strong openings in either the Telugu or Tamil markets.
As a result, Sigma is not receiving the kind of pre-release hype that a debut directed by Vijay’s son might normally be expected to generate.
Jason Sanjay is now trying hard to promote the film on his own, without the visible backing of his father.
The film’s theatrical response will ultimately depend on how effectively the team can create awareness and interest among audiences ahead of its release.
