Naga Chaitanya, Sai Dharam Tej and Nikhil Siddhartha are all aiming to expand their markets with ambitious pan-Indian projects.
However, the changing OTT landscape is reportedly becoming a major concern for the makers of these films.
Naga Chaitanya is currently working on Vrushakarma, directed by Karthik Dandu of Virupaksha fame. Produced by BVSN Prasad, the film is said to be the biggest-budget project in Chaitanya’s career.
The theatrical rights have already been acquired by Naga Vamsi’s Sithara Entertainments.
While the OTT deal is nearing completion, industry buzz suggests that the digital offer is much lower than what the makers initially expected, affecting the film’s projected revenue.
A similar situation is being discussed around Sai Dharam Tej’s Sambarala Yeti Gattu. Riding on the success of Virupaksha, the actor reportedly expected stronger non-theatrical business for his costliest film to date.
However, OTT platforms are said to be cautious with their valuations, and the makers are yet to lock a satisfactory deal.
Nikhil Siddhartha’s Swayambhu is also facing challenges on the business front. The film’s release plans appear to have been delayed due to pending OTT negotiations.
Trade circles believe the underwhelming performance of Nikhil’s recent films and the limited buzz around Swayambhu have impacted its non-theatrical prospects.
The movie, which was initially expected to release in April, is now awaiting a new release date.
