Veteran playback singer P Susheela turned emotional while remembering legendary singer S Janaki following her demise. A video of Susheela speaking about Janaki is now going viral on social media.
“Janaki was an extraordinary singer. God has taken her away. There is no music now,” Susheela said with tears in her eyes.
She praised Janaki’s unmatched versatility and said no one could imagine the many different ways in which she could sing.
“That is why the first award instituted in my name was presented to her. It remains one of the best things I have done in my life,” she said.
Susheela further recalled Janaki’s rare ability to change her voice depending on the situation.
“Janaki could sing in a male voice, like a little child or like an elderly person. She knew exactly how to captivate listeners. I am nothing before her,” Susheela said.
She also spoke about the constant comparisons made between the two singers during their careers.
“Many people tried to create differences between us by comparing us throughout our careers. Perhaps such people are happy now,” she remarked.
Susheela said Janaki had achieved everything possible in music and would remain immortal through her songs.
“Janaki has no death. She will always remain beside Goddess Saraswati. People were truly blessed to hear such a divine voice,” she said.
