The big day has finally arrived for Ram Charan fans as the much-awaited Peddi has hit theatres.
The film, mounted on a grand scale, has been in the making for a long time and is now looking to make a strong impact at the box office.
In the early stages of production, Peddi generated solid buzz. However, repeated delays and a few underwhelming promotional assets slightly affected the hype.
Still, the film is expected to open on a strong note, with Ram Charan likely to record the biggest solo opening of his career at the Indian box office.
After the disappointing result of Game Changer, fans are hoping that Peddi will mark Ram Charan’s powerful comeback.
His rugged look, which reminded many of the raw appeal seen in Pushpa, created a strong impression among the masses. The song Chikiri Chikiri also became a chartbuster and helped the film stay in discussion.
However, after Chikiri Chikiri, the promotional material did not create the same level of excitement.
The trailer, which was the most important asset, received a mixed to poor response. While fans appreciated Ram Charan’s effort and transformation, the trailer failed to create the required urgency among neutral audiences.
Despite the mixed response to the trailer, Peddi continues to remain a hot property because of Ram Charan’s strong fan base and the Konidela family’s hold in the Telugu market. This was clearly visible in the paid previews held on June 3 and in the advance bookings for the opening day.
Excluding paid previews, the film’s Day 1 advance sales reportedly touched the Rs 20 crore gross mark, excluding blocked seats. This is a huge number and once again reflects Ram Charan’s star power.
Peddi has been released on a massive scale. While the dubbed versions are expected to remain low, the Telugu version is likely to dominate the box office.
Going by the current anticipation in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the film is expected to collect around Rs 58 crore to Rs 63 crore net at the Indian box office on Day 1, including paid previews.
With such a start, Peddi is set to become Ram Charan’s biggest solo opener, surpassing his previous best, Game Changer, which had collected around Rs 51 crore net on its opening day.
