The controversy around Ram Charan starrer Peddi is getting bigger day by day.
After criticism over the way Janhvi Kapoor’s character was shown in the film, several heroines are now coming out one after another and expressing their views.
Dimple Hayathi had already reacted to the issue. Soon after that, Ashika Ranganath also responded.
Some voices from Bollywood have also joined the discussion. Now, Nithya Menen has also entered the debate.
Nithya Menen reacted to the criticism over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character in Peddi. She said she strongly opposes the practice of showing women as objects on screen.
Interestingly, Nithya said she has not watched the film, but still stands in support of Janhvi on the larger issue.
She said this problem is not limited only to the South Indian film industry.
According to her, the objectification of women is a major issue in cinema across the world.
Nithya said that in the name of commercial elements, some makers go overboard in presenting heroines. She advised actresses to create clear boundaries for themselves.
She said actresses should firmly say “no” whenever they feel they are being shown like objects or when they are uncomfortable with certain scenes.
The debate started after several objections were raised over the way Janhvi Kapoor was shown as Achiyamma in Peddi.
As criticism grew, director Buchi Babu Sana himself came forward and gave an explanation.
He also offered an unconditional apology and reportedly promised to make changes to the controversial scenes.
However, the controversy has not died down yet.
