Following the release of the first glimpse of “Dragon,” director Prashanth Neel has shed more light on the film’s backdrop and thematic canvas.
Starring NTR in the lead role, the film is set in a world shaped by crime, history and intense human drama.
Speaking about the story, Prashanth Neel said his childhood experiences continue to influence his filmmaking.
“My childhood always serves as an emotional core in my films. In ‘Dragon’ too, that remains my greatest strength. This story is far more grounded in reality than any of the narratives I have told so far,” he explained.
The director revealed that the film unfolds against the backdrop of Mumbai and Kolkata, giving it a realistic and authentic setting.
He also disclosed that the story revolves around opium trafficking and the illegal trade networks that continued to thrive even after the British colonial era.
“I have woven the narrative around the world of opium trafficking. Certain businesses that originated during British rule continued long after they left. Drawing from such historical realities, I am creating a powerful and dramatic cinematic universe,” he stated.
While the glimpse highlighted the film’s scale and action-packed tone, Prashanth Neel emphasized that “Dragon” is driven equally by strong emotions and drama.
According to him, the film will offer much more than spectacular action sequences, with human relationships and conflict forming the heart of the story.
